Frederick Marathon
I am pleased to announce that FAST is once again partnering with Special Olympics Maryland Frederick County for the Frederick Marathon scheduled for May 1 & 2, 2010 at the Fairgrounds.
Last year, FAST was awarded $1,500.00 for providing 52 volunteers throughout that weekend. The volunteer jobs included T-shirt and bib distribution, checking in racer’s gear, handing out food, blankets, and medals on race day.
There are a few time slots to choose from and that range of about 4 hours a shift. Last year the transition for each time slot ran so smoothly that volunteers were able to actually leave early.
If you sign up for Sunday: Race Day Support or Gear check: Traffic that morning is heavy so please plan accordingly. On another note: It says that the time slot for Sunday is from 6am-1:30pm… Please don’t let that discourage you from signing up that day. We understand that people need to leave earlier and that is acceptable. Any time that you give is appreciated. If you have children you are signing up as well, please note that they need to be 16 and older to volunteer without a parent.
In order to ensure a similar monetary award can be given for 2010 we will need to have at least 50 people sign up from FAST. If you sign up quickly you will be more apt to get the time slot that fits your schedule.
